We are craftsman who love to work with our hands. MS Pottery originated as a play on our names but came to encompass so much more.
I have a degree from New Paltz in Visual Art. I am a baker turned potter who loves to be outside working in my kitchen garden. Scot has a degree from City Tech in Construction. Scot is an extraordinary woodworker with an interest in tools and machinery. Sometime during my art school days he began making glaze. Then not just glaze; Scot began making clay tools, he learned to fire a Raku kiln and discovered a love of clay for himself. My art became something for both of us to enjoy and develop. Whether he is working with the slab roller, making plaster bats, firing our Raku kiln or working with clay, Scot uses his construction background and knowledge of tools to make beautiful objects spanning a variety of mediums.
Inspired by nature, clay is the language I use to express myself. My techniques and methods are constantly evolving. The artists who inspire me and the varied workshops I attend broadens the scope of my work and continues to open up a wide range of artistic possibilities to explore. Like a hot cup of coffee on a frigid morning or a crisp glass of prosecco in my summer garden what I create is a reflection of my mood and my work defines who I am on any given day.
